I'm not sure if you can do it with a straightener, but it would seem that if you made a continuous motion outwards at the end of your hair, it might have a bit of a flip. Hairspray and a round brush should definitely help.

You could also try big round hair curlers, just on the ends.

yes. I think the large barrel curling irons work best for flipping. Just turn it the other way. But, roll it outwards along with your hair like you would with a brush. Do it quickly for a natural look. You don't have to hold it there for a long time. Don't brush it out, either. Spray with hairspray then press to get it to stay :)
