I have the exact same hair type! I have had it layered so it flips out, and it's also easy to curl. I do two French braids which is a great alternative to pony-tails. You can also change up the ponytails buy doing cornrows. Another suggestion is to use decorative clips.

I braid two small sections of the front to make braids that hang on the side with the back loose. looks kinda cute but the main reason is the outside layer of my hair is where the frizz is-so I tie it up in a braid and ..no frizzy part, and its "under-control"

I have thick hair too, tho mine isn't that long, a little below the jawline. I get mine thinned.Its wavy and thick, sometimes thinning it helps out.

It wont' look weird or anything, you can get it styled or use your styling products as usual
