I have medium length, black hair with blond/gold highlights that are growing out and fading. I want to add some more highlights but im afriad that it will damage my hair even more. I also want a relaxer but i dont know if i should do my highlights or the relaxer first. I also have alot of split ends and breakage. I also wear my hair straight but flat- ironing is also contributing the damage of my hair. Please tell me if I should get a relaxer or my highlights first, some easy hairstyles that wont damage my hair and some black hair care products that will help with my damaged hair! Thanx in advance!

I know that it would be safer to relax your hair first.

Whoa, don't use any relaxers that will defintely help the hair become very dry and damaged even more, especially at the ends. The longer you keep heat off of your hair the better your hair will grow. Also, if you eat lots of veggies and fruits, that will help prevent breakage to , but I myself use Revolon semi-pernanent with my perm. It gives my hair shiny lustor and keeps it from drying out. I would also recommend getting braids to help stop all the breakage from falling out. Also, I wouldn't blow dry because that helps pull and break even more of your hair off!! Also, consider asking a professional hair-stylist. I wouldn't use weave either because the fake already grown hair is damaging also to your hair but, if you do get tracks than don't leave them in very long because your hair- shaft will keep on recedding backwards and backwards until all your hair is split on the hair-shaft and you will have to get it cut to help restart the growth of your hair.Always relax your hair before doing any hightlighting.

hello Sarah L., well it sounds to me like you need a little bit of help with your hair. soooo, i think that 1st of all that you need to have a hair cut to fix the split ends. then while you are doing that i would ask my hairdresser about what to do 1st, highlight my hair first or relax it first. they say that when you need a perm you should perm your hair first before you color it. then wait 2 weeks %26amp; then do the coloring so i would say that you need to relax it first then highlight it. also did you know that you can have your highlights done to only the roots? well you can. it's called weaving. weaving is better than using the cap because you can place the highlights right where you want them to be. also you can pay per weave, did you know that??? each weave consists of 5 strands to be highlighted. so you should ask your hairdresser about this also. they charge by weaves. like say for instance 5 weaves is 25 strands of hair that's weaved with highlights %26amp; let's say each weave(5 strands) is $8 each then that would cost you $40 for the total. but that's a hypothetical price ok? just to give you an idea of what i'm trying to help you out with ok? so i would relax your hair first then in 2 weeks i would tell you to come back so i could highlight your roots that need to be done %26amp; then i would tell you about a good conditioning process for your hair so it would look nice %26amp; shiney %26amp; that would be the finishing touches. but you need to have those split ends cut off so i would include that price with the relaxer like for instance when some women have perms it includes the cut too. so that's my own advise for you. hope this was of some help to you. also did you know that hairdressing schools do all of these at a much lower price? just call up a hairdressing school in your area %26amp; ask them what they would charge you for all of these processes %26amp; then call up a hair salon %26amp; ask them how much it would cost you for all of this %26amp; compare notes. good luck, nobrethequeen
