Hair for prom?

i have medium length black hair with layers that are reaching my shoulders. I want to keep my hair down and curls don't look good on me, but im open to updo's but i really don't know how i can keep my hair up. I have a black dress if it helps... so help?

Leave the back down, but pull the front up and back and fasten it with a sparkly clip. Still have that loose and free effect, but it'll look a little dressy too. Have fun!

Down and straight

try looking up hairstyles for weddings, they're usually the same things as prom hairstyles but they have more sites and better choices.. here's some ones that i like:

twist it on the sides and put it half up....buy a really pretty clip to clip it in the back.....

down is NOT a good idea. with the black dress, its just too dark with your hair down, plus it can get over whelming when your sweating with hair in your face.

if you want a "do it yourself" updo, i would try scrunching your hair (try to give it a more messy waves effects, not big defined curls).

the messy waves will totally give you more of the beachy chic look. then, try a lower, yet completely secure bun. you can do this one yourself or get freinds, professionals, etc to do it for you. put your hair in a loose, low ponytail. then, twist it up into a bun and use bobby pins all over to secure it. wisp back all hair so your face is exposed, and take some of your shorter layers out and let them fall naturally. looks amazing.

also try:

i think a single french braid or plait on black hair looks gorgeous. you can try that alone or with a headband to match.

try types of "pin-ups" or cool ponytails.

good luck!
