I had a golden brown hair color and then I dyed it with this Ash Blonde color and it's darker.
How come?
I dyed my hair Ash Blonde with Clairol Natural Instincts and my hair turned medium brown??
this is why we shouldn't color our own hair. stuff like that should be left up to proffesionals. their are three different types of ash blonde light medium and dark. Dark ash blonde is the same color as light brown just wash it a few times with cheap shampoo and it will be fine(hairdresser of ten years)

Ash is a green base and blonde is yellow...green and yellow make brown!!!! You need to go back to your natural and then if you want to go a light/medium brown then get a blue base hair color..

did you look at the color number on the box and compare it to the color on the dye in the box? One time when I dyed my hair, the colors were switched and I ended up with a totally different color than what I thought I was buying. The lady at the store said it happens all the time and that you should always open the box and make sure you're getting the right color.

In order to "dye" your hair a lighter color, you actually have to double process it. By that I mean you have to use a bleaching agent first, then the slightly roughened hair can receive and hold on to a toning agent (color) which will tone down the golden or reddish tone created by bleaching to a suitable color. If you have brown hair and you put a semipermanent or temporary color on your hair, the hair absorbs some of the color (usually causing a darker color than you began with). Permanent colors are the only ones that have bleaching agents added to the color, but unless you get yours done by a professional, it is difficult to get the exact lighter color you want. Bleaching is a very tricky process. Hope this helps.
