Can i dye my dark brown, almost black hair a medium to light brown?

i dyed my hair a couple of days ago but it is darker than i wanted (very very dark brown) and some of my hair didn't even take the dye!!! i used l'oreal by the way....anyway can i try to dye my hair to a medium or lighter brown successfully? everyone says you have to strip your hair but mine is just a really dark brown, not black soooo will it work?? i'm not able to go to a salon and get it stripped anyway.

sure you can:) that happened to me too and we have the same color of hair. it's done by everyone. perhaps yours is still virgin hair that's why the color's not adhering yet. it's always like that for first-timers unless the benzoyl peroxide is really strong in the colorant. wait a month or so first before you do a second application as you don't want to dry your hair out too much. (i actually wait at least 3 in between applications) oh yeah, are you sure that you got the permanent dye and not the semi-permanent one? check the box again. the semi-permanents usually dont adhere to the hair as well as the permanents and they wash off in a couple of weeks. pay attention to the timing also and basically the over-all procedure that you follow when you do the coloring yourself. last thing, it generally takes a while for dye color to show through. the longer the color sits on your hair and the more it gets exposed to the sun, the lighter it will get.

If you do, go ash brown. Warm tones like golden brown will wash out your skin. Stick to the cool tones like ash and you can pull off light or medium brown.

they sell stuff to strip your hair at walmart, i wouldnt reccomend it though, its so bad for your hair, and turnes it 6 different colors of yellow and orange lol. it might look uneven, color the darker parts first, and then last do the lighter parts. its going to be hard to get it to look even, enless you go to a salon.

you can but wait 2 weeks b4 u get another dye at least then a the beauty supply store ask 4 the hair lightener the higher the volume the brighter the color your looking 4 will come out but when you do that throw a deep condtioner in there and let it sit 4 at least 1hr so that your hair won't b so weak b/c dying the hair breaks it off bad

No - you cannot dye your hair lighter than it is, so you would have to bleach it first then colour it the way you want. This is quite risky on hair you have already coloured so I would really recommend you either leave it or get it done professionally!

Hiya, u can get a product which will lighten it, its called pre-lightener and is used for darkhaired people to go much lighter, it can be used in coloured hair, with this u will also have to get another box of colour... but beware, stripping and pre-lightening can give u a very dodgy colour at first... orange or pink, depending on ur tone, this may affect the final result... (confused yet) if u stick to simple colours to put on after the stripper/pre-lightener u should be safe enough. ur hair will feel bad after this, use a good conditioner and leave on when possible then rinse well, this will help get it back to looking good, alternativly u could go for a highlightening kit to break up the dark colour? It is possible, yes, as someone I know went from Black hair, to Blonde, but I think it would take a few go's to get it the colour your after. :)

if you have any hair left on your head then you can. far as i know? can't see why not. wonder what it would be like if everybody dyed their hair the same colour. and if everybody is gonna be the same color hundreds of years from now. or, much sooner.

i would advise you to do it in stages, lightening it slowly by a couple of shades over a couple of months or it will end up looking overprocessed and unnatural.
