I'm dyeing my hair, from medium/dark brown to blond. help!?

I really want to go blond for my hair color. Most people I've talked to say it would look fine, because I'm already dark-skinned. I was looking for a golden blond type deal. My only concern would be the impact on my hair. Someone told me it would turn red and I will have wasted my money. Is this true? Should I be ok to dye my hair blond?

It depends on what you're doing to it and the quality of the product you're using. If it's bleach, it probably won't turn red, but it will be very damaged and you will need to condition it a lot.

But, if it's not bleach, but an ammonia box color from a local drugstore, it may turn red. Most likely, it will turn an orange-ey, fake, brassy color. That tends to happen a lot to women and you may end up regretting your decision.

If it's your first time dying, talk to a professional at your local hair place (Fantastic Sam's, Regis, Cost Cutters, etc.). You may wish to go with shimmery highlights or lowlights instead.

If you decide not to dye, and still wish to be blonde, you can always use Sun-In (www.sun-in.com) and stay outside in the sun a lot. You can also add lemon juice and beer to your hair/shampoo.

It is really hard to lighten your hair at home, it almost never comes out right. I would go to a salon to have it done.

You should deal with a professional with this problem. She is the expert. I can tell you that my hair is medium ash brown and when I tried to lighten it, I got red. I was blond as a child. So even I can't go back to being a blond.

Be really careful if you do it yourself, I did that once and it turned out orange. Looked awful. My advice is to go to a pro.
